Tata Nano in North America

The Tata Nano arrived in North America last week, and is poised to debut at the Detroit Science Center January 14th. Dubbed “The People’s Car” it has an MSRP of around $2,500 USD for the base model.

Tata Technologies, with regional headquarters in Novi, Michigan, played a key role in engineering the Nano, which is produced by Tata Motors in India.

COE workshop – Gulfstream

James DeLaPorte from Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation just took the stage and introduced his team that is here today.

Gulfstream thinks of data as a 100 year lifespan.

3.8 Million total sq. footage with over 10,000 employees.

Challenges: Worlds first FAA approved 3D MBD business model.

G650 new airplane how they did it: Dassault Integrated Suite of products.

Dual PDMs… SmarTeam and LCA

It all starts with Part Design, then goes to FT&A… no more 2D. To get around the drawing title block having the “default” tolerance… it now is a part of the BOM.

Next to the assembly, everything is in the tree. That is the BOM

Vaulted in ENOVIA, black box. then use SmarTeam as the static vault (certification vault) LCA never makes it past the design room.

i CHECK IT is used in the bridge to make sure the data is clean. “Have not lost any data”

Effectivities are done in SmarTeam.

SmarTeam workflow is then used.

Generated BOMs are generated to PDF

Bulk export out of SmarTeam to the suppliers. Script looks at the product structure makes the BOM and zips it up.

Time for a new CAD release. Old version is opens file as well as the

Kubotek – Topology analysis using surfaces

ITI CADIQ – Topology analysis using points

then compare results between both tools. This is released data… what do you do if it is wrong. STEP out. make the change. Have FAA process, STEP back in, then take in SmarTeam.

How do I know STEP file is good? compare STEP file back to original CAD.

FT&A data has to be compared as well.

Manufacturing gets the data – CATIA V5

Shop floor Execution - Solumina / SmarTeam / CATIA

Shop Floor has dual screen setup and the communication with engineering has been improved greatly.
